Chris Kyle (1974–2013) was a decorated U.S. Navy SEAL and the most lethal sniper in American military history, with 160 confirmed kills during four tours in Iraq. Born in Odessa, Texas, Kyle joined the Navy in 1999 and served with SEAL Team 3. He earned numerous awards, including a Silver Star and several Bronze Stars for valor. Known as "The Legend" by fellow service members, his life and military career were chronicled in his bestselling memoir American Sniper, which was later adapted into a major film. After retiring, he worked to support veterans struggling with PTSD. He was tragically killed in 2013 while helping a fellow veteran.
